John Polak is an accomplished mechanic, able to fix just about anything.

I do just about all my own automotive work, repair and installation of appliances, and repair of garage equipment. 

Extreme level of mechanical aptitude.

Automobile Experience

  • Trained at Alexandria (VA) Community College in engine and transmissions, engine diagnostics, automotive machining, basic automotive repair

  • Rebuild engines, transmissions (automatic and manual), and differentials.  Chevy and Ford small blocks, GM automatic transmissions, GM differentials

  • Carburetion and fuel injection systems:  Chrysler, GM, Porsche

  • Points and solid state ignition systems: Many older vehicles with point systems, Chrysler, GM, Porsche

  • Suspension: Replace shocks and bushings, replace wheel bearings, replace control arms, rebuild GM rear axle assembly.  Install racing suspension systems on Acura Integra and Porsche 944.  Install heavy duty suspension and traction bars on Chevy Nova.

  • Steering: Replace ball joints and tie rods.

  • Brakes:   Replace numerous brake pads and shoes, rotors and drums, replace/rebuild calibers and brake cylinders, replace/rebuild master cylinders, bleed brake systems, change brake fluid.  Install race brake systems on Acura Integra and Porsche 944.  Includes slotted rotors, caliber rebuild, race brake pads, braided brake lines.

  • Electrical systems: Track down and repair electrical problems.

  • Exhaust:  Install high performance exhaust systems, repair (weld repair) exhaust leaks.

  • Chassis: Body repair and paint, install roll bars, install 5 point racing harness.

  • Additional:  Convert plain 6 cylinder Chevy Nova to high performance 327 V8 hot rod.

Motorcycles

  • Rebuild 1000cc iron Harley Davidson Sportster engine.  Complete performance upgrade with ported heads, high compression pistons, high lift cams, big valves, balance rotating assemblies, S&S carburator, Andrews transmission gears, strengthened gear case, Barnett clutch.  Includes all required clearance work with valves, valve springs, pistons, camshafts.

  • Rebuild Yamaha XS500B and XS500C engine top ends.

  • Rebuild Yamaha 750cc Virago engine.

  • Rebuild Yamaha YZ125 engine (top and bottom) and Honda CR125 engine top end (with RS125 piston kit)

  • Performance general maintenance and repairs including wheel bearings, fork seals, electrical, tank repair, oil pumps, drive chains and sprockets, suspension components

Small Engines

  • Blue print Yamaha KT100 100 cc racing go-kart two cycle engines.  Perform required rebuilds.  Adjust port timing to different exhaust pipes as dictated by class rules.

  • Rebuild numerous lawn mower and minibike engines including Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, Clinton.

Other

  • Do all chassis maintenance, repair, and adjustment on racing go-karts

  • Install hot water heaters

  • Home plumbing including repairing toilets, installing sinks and faucets, repairing leaks, unclogging sewage lines.

  • Home electrical including installing 110V and 220V outlets, wiring in electrical hot water heater (replace gas unit), replacing furnace motors

  • Install propane gas stove

  • Install walls to modify finished basement

  • Numerous interior and exterior paint projects
